Recently I have heard many of these complaints... so here are the rules for using hitskin.com
I believe the problem is within the hitskin service and cookie updates, as well as impatience of forumotion members.
Symptoms:
What to do:
If you reset your theme too many times a day or ... modify the theme before it fully loads the problems will begin!
How to fix the problem:
(if you have a custom theme and its not from hitskin I recomend exporting the theme first!!)
Go to admin panel -> display -> colors -> CSS sheet tab
once there select the entire CSS script and delete it. Then save the empty CSS style sheet.
Go to your admin panel -> display -> choose a theme -> select a default prosilver theme and save the settings.
Let the skin load fully = leave it for a couple hours or even 1 whole day.
Go to hitskin.com and reload your skin.(if you exported your own theme then you can import it
I believe the problem is within the hitskin service and cookie updates, as well as impatience of forumotion members.
Symptoms:
- My forum changed color automatically
- My forum changed its style automatically
- My theme has got elements from older themes I installed earlier
- After installing my new theme not all images loaded
- Incorrect image set, or color order
- My theme won't change no matter how hard I try
What to do:
- First off, the best way to use the hitskin service is to first visit the original hitskin.com page and have a look at preferred themes.
- Once you have chosen a theme... use the hitskin demo preview to check if all the buttons and forums are in your taste
- if you are certain you want the current theme, upload it via the hitskin.com installer or via your admin panel
Hit the "install this skin" button!!! DO NOT CLICK THE "save settings" Button
- Refresh you cookies [ctrl+F5]
- If you decide on changing your theme, do it at most 1 a day!!!
If you reset your theme too many times a day or ... modify the theme before it fully loads the problems will begin!
Pick your themes calmly
Don't change the theme too often
If you have no experience in CSS ,then don't modify the theme.

I had real problems with my forum. My buttons were all huge, the text was large (even though in the CP it was set at 12), I had buttons not appearing... the whole lot.
I have decided to follow these steps. Hopefully, with a bit of luck, everything will come right. So far it all looks good.
Fingers crossed.

thanks all for your comment
as a bit of an update... IPB forums and punBB forums react the same way... so this tutorial is a universal tool for installing themes.
