I voted no. I think polls should be private. If they really wanted to tell what they votes for they could just do what I am doing right now.

I vote no,
If they want to tell you there Vote they can post, some are private and would not want someoen to know who voted 4 what

The use of poll is nothing but anonymous voting.
Now, I'm not telling which I vote
though you know...

Half of the members that are voting are not telling what they voted...So i need this >YES

I double the above
the polls are anonymous, just as they are meant to be

Maybe there's a reason they don't want you to know.

Then we can have the options for members, whether they wish to vote anonymous or not !

For the ones who voted no it should be an optional setting in the admin panel.

I think that some may be missing the point here. The poll is about having the ability to see WHO voted not HOW they voted. Knowing who has participated in the vote is very useful. I would definitely like to have this feature.

I think that they should also see what they voted for. I don't think that normal members should see what someone voted for but mods and admins should.
11 babaganoosh, on 26/10/2008 at 20h14
I'm all for this. After you get 2 people voting, nobody will know who voted for what anyways, so why are people so bent about "privacy"? I'd want this so that people aren't getting multiple accounts and using them to sway the vote in their direction.
12 tieucongchua124, on 29/01/2009 at 08h43
forum is public, so it should let us see the voters' name
13 Moldienut, on 19/04/2009 at 03h16
I think this should be only visible to admins and mods in my opinion but to normal members it should be private.

While some people think all polls should be done by "secret ballot," there are MANY ways that knowing the voters would be very helpful (even if only visible to the Poll creator or Administrator).
The option SHOULD be available to select (like on other bulletin boards out there), so if the poster wants to be ultra-secretive, he can select "Don't show who voted," or the responder can set their profile to "Don't show my name in voting results" as default.
Just becuase a handful of people do not see the utility of knowing who voted, that doesn't mean the feature should not be considered for those who would appreciate it.
Sure, if you are doing some sort of politically charged debate, and you need to hide behind the veil of anonymity, I understand how you might not want people to know your opinion, however:

- When in the planning stages of an event, and you want to get a feel for participation, you can ask the question, "Who plans on attending?" or "On what date(s) would you prefer?" This way, when the event is set, you can contact those who voted, to confirm their participation, and send them specific information about the event.
- If a discussion revolves around a particular resource, and you wanted to who has access to Item A, Item B and/or Item C, a poll would be much more effective than a bunch of people adding successive responses to a thread.
- You could run contests where people could vote on a particular subject, or guess the correct answer to a trivia question, and the pollster would then have the list of people who selected the winning option from which to select for a prize or honorable mention.
- People could rate their experience with a product, service or event. Some might see the necessity in keeping something like this anonymous, but being able to contact participants for more information (especially if they do not provide specifics in the comment thread) would help the organization improve.
- If you are a club or social group, and are trying to meet somewhere and use a poll to determine the most convenient place/time, you would know whom to contact if their "vote" places them far away from the planned site.

I would say show who voted but NOT what they voted for.

I want to know one thing before vote...
Usernames wich voted would be public? If so, I dont like it...
But It would be nice that Admins could see wich users voted in a poll, so, they could, for example, detect double accounts (many people do this in forums, so they gives more than one vote per poll), so in this way, Admins could detect double accounts for voting and banning them...
So, by the moment, I will not vote...

My words spilled before me!
However, my vote is Yes. But under the conditions that it be:
1) An option
2) Admin-only

A poll is a statistic instrument. Other than the general interest about a subject, and the direction of the members opinion, the voters are not relevant. In any poll the votes are anonymous. Including the elections
People who vote are also different from a poll to another because they can have different areas of interest. And the ones who never vote will just follow the results of the poll.
We already have the top of the users who vote so the general idea about how many of our members are interested enough can be made. Knowing that someone - anyone - can see if I vote or not in a certain poll will definitely make me to refrain myself from voting.
So I go on the No side, as I see this idea as a privacy invasion.

For trivial polls I don't think it would really matter, but for polls for research/experimental value of or about the forum, it probably would come in handy.
At least for only moderators or admins to view.
