Word Censoring in Chatbox

I have noticed and has been a worry for me is the fact there is no feature to censor words in the chatbox on the forum, this is something that Is important and its great you can censor usenames and words in the forum but the chat box is an issue if there is not a mod around we may not see someone swearing or using offenceive language this would be of a great use to me and my forum. Hope people like my Idea

i had a problem with idiots posting porno sites and using really bad sexual language on the childrens forum that i look after. it really upset me to think that somebody could do that..... i dont want to remove the chatbox because the kids love keeping in touch with it! i have changed the new user settings to be activated by admin only now but the risk is still there that someone could do the same thing again. i would love to be able to censor the chatbox....

How is a censor going to stop them from posting links? They may not be able to swear, but nothing stops them from posting those site's links.

they were using foul language that you cant censor from the chatbox the same way you can censor from the forum. as i said, they were using 'sexual language' in the chatbox.

i could also censor the use of 'www' on the chatbox which would be helpful too!!

i love this idea too becuase i am 13 years old i made a class website and my teacher hates bad words well actually my principal does but anyways i hate people saying bad words on the chat box

Like I said, there's so many words out there that you couldn't even censor them all if you want to censor anything the least bit sexual.

And if you censor "www", then how will people post links to innocent and popular sites like youtube or something?

so you think i should make no effort whatsoever in censoring a childs forum?? shall i just let it be a 'free for all' for porn sites etc then? (which i have seen happen where nobody bothers)

yes indeed this is a good idia but so far admin and mod has there right to subject any member who was violating the said rules all should be ballance a 3x mistake could be subjected to kick out, and if still insist to do so then suspention or ban if must

When did I say don't try? I just asked what you would do with youtube links...that's hardly saying don't protect children...

And you know you can ban people from the cbox right?

yes absolutely!

i have seen 'shoutboxes' where links are automatically censored as well as censoring bad language. that would be ideal for my forum. (am looking at maybe using this instead of the chatbox).

fortunately i have moderators from all time zones so the forum is closely monitored. if someone posts something bad on the forum, we have their ip address but not if they only post in the chat box. (although i know you can get the ip if you are online at the same time, even if they haven't posted)

we havent had a problem with members posting anything unsuitable in the form of youtube links anyway. only on the chatbox.
