Okay, I'm pissed off at the moment like many others here. That I don't write in capslock is just because I'm not facing someone in real!
I pay for some services of forumotion, and even on those forums I run on basic level I "pay" while have ads on my site. So I think I give something back for the forumotion host, so I also think I can await something.
One of my forum is again down, because it's not possible to open anything. The last time I had trouble with two of my forums it was because the techs changed the basic CSS. Thanks for keeping up the service and thanks for bugfixing. But why do we always get to know a tech is doing something because our forums go byebye?
Isn't it possible for ANYONE of the staff, may it be global mods, may it be global admins or well, may it be the techs on their own, to tell us that something is going on BEFORE all our forums crash? Something like "Hey, we'll change the basic CSS code tomorrow, you might get trouble with your forum's look!" would help a lot. So we can tell our members they might get trouble. We're not making forums because we're unemployed people with too muchz freetime, well most of us, but we're making our forums because we wanted to create a place for a certain community! For a lot of people this is far over "just fun". We're loving our forums and we love our members, do you have to ALWAYS shock us with crashing our forums? Is it so hard to send newsletters? I can send newsletters pretty easy to my members, what's with you? Are you too high to tell us about it?
Maybe I'm risking my forums, I don't know. But I know that my members are also unhappy about this. I had so many times IM conversations with members of me because they needed help. I just can't stay silent.
Please start telling us what will go on! We NEED to know, so we can await trouble!
So, who of you joins my request?

I was thinking about allowing multiple answers^^
No, seriously, this is not a topic to make fun about and I wanted a real election. It shall show the staff here the opinion of the members, not of one member who had to do nothing than pres a button 3000 times.
I hope the one or the other mod/admin finds that topic. Otherwise I send them the link XD

i do not think that this is needed. if the techs really are changing the css (which i see no sign of) then they are doing it so that something can work better or so that your forums will look better in the long run. if your forum does go down it always comes back up doesnt it? that means that the techs are aware of the problem and are fixing it. the techs are doing a fine job and i do not think that anything needs to be changed at the moment.

The last time that one of my forums was going crazy was while the techs were changing the basic CSS code. Two of my forums had a creepy style which made it nearly impossible for anyone to read it.
We all know that it will get fixed, that's not the problem. It would be just better if we could know that they will do something before we get mailed by dozens of confused members. I don't want them to stop it, don't get me wrong.
A public transport-company also tell their customers that they will build on a line before they start. It's the same I want.

well you have to imagine if the techs do tell the members about a change coming up. how the members will react. some will want to change to happen, some will want an other change to happen instead of that one, some will not want any change to happen which will make the people who want a change angry. it will turn the support forums into a giant fight about a change.

does no-one see my point?

Drangonfir, I see your point
Now that I think of it, I shouldn't have tried to get past with such a short post
The technicians would inform, not debate on the changes.
So in that sense, either the members are warned, they prepare themselves for eventual bugs. At the end of the day, solutions may come up faster. Or they complain / do nothing, and it's as if this suggestions doesn't pass.
Let's take for example the recent one; when they updated/corrected the forums' CSS... Personally, I don't see many members not wanting the change. But having been warned, members might have thought of saving their personal CSS's and re-entering it afterwards.

but i still think that members would start many topics in many areas complaining about it.

hmmm....glad I found this post, now I may know its not my doings, but maybe changes in forumotion? I could probably reduce my posting on gaining help if I knew something was up with changes. I am having to explain myself and in the midst of growing frustated in my admin. panel I am just now finding out its a possible change.
Please consider a newsletter or pre - post stating, changes are about to occur. I am sure others besides myself would love knowing what is going on, it would save everyone extra trouble and frustration.
Thank you!
Please take this into consideration.

Yep,
I agree with Dragonfir and lilypad.
Dragonfir made a good point, the techs are doing they're best, they're helping us..
Lilypad, i agree with that on the french support forum the techs have a combined post count of 3928 (I know, i can count) on the English support forum we have 2 yay.
And what did i see when i popped over to the French support forum, a new tech

I 100% agree with Mr.Killerguitar we should know when there going to a update and for the people who is saying we shouldn't because it will turn this forum into a fight forum that just crazy
that why you have moderators on forums.
we can pass on the message to our members telling there could be a problems around the update time. like what most pro forums do.

i agree also, it can be very annoying at times, and if we knew then we could tell our members.
About people arguing, well they are mods and admin on this forum and am sure they can sort it, you can't keep everyone happy, its life

actually refering to dragonfirs comment ... I think the techies should actually inform us more.... under many circumstances... they should tell us when there might be forum troubles due to maintenance or installation.
but they should also post topics that actually inform us of what they are working on at the moment... the suggestions for example. the techies have access to the admins forum so why don't they just post something there... they can do it in french if they want to... someone will translate and relay the info to the board...
we actually do need way more interaction with the techies,, they should inform us of future updates or delays.
And running back to dragonfir... the techies would just post that from 5 GMT to 6GMT your forums may experience down time. There is no discussion and no flame wars... its just to prepare administrators of board to set up a topic informing their members about the lack of service during a time.
so yes.... I know the techies are way busier on the french board, but they could post a little what not on our forum as well

I think that it should update and then give us an option to allow the update later, The forum's state is saved anyways, hence how you can go back to a previous version
So why not have something in place where the CSS saves automatically when they update the basic CSS and then you can choose to update it later
Rough but you get the idea
Regards
Craig
