It would be nice to have Automatic activation on our forums..We only have either Admin or user to activate the accounts.
Would be easier for guests too register and the activation done once registration is completed.Obviously still have Admin and user activation as an option.
I dont know if this has already been mentioned.

I agree. This way they can post immediately. Sometimes they forget about activating their accounts and end up not joining.

I disagree. It would make it far too easy for spambots and spammers to sign up.

thats true, but only if your forums are open to guests making topics to begin with.
4 tawy, on 15/03/2007 at 07h49
i dont think it is a good idea as the activation was first made as a safety measure for any board

But isn't the point of the suggestion that you become a member without activation, so they wouldn't be guests.

A suggestion yes/no will be better. I'm against, no activation is an open dorr for flooder, spamers or hackers...

I like this idea because peolpe who join my forum never activate there accounts and they never go on.

You know, as an admin, you can activate the account, in the menu "inactive users". I do it regularly here

Yes but activating the account in the menu is the same as activating it in email..no different.
I mean Just instant activation once registering.
EDIT: plus surely with it being your forum any spammers, botts etc can be banned by yourself if any occurs
10 Tristou, on 15/03/2007 at 15h06
I said that in case of they forgot to activate their account

Ok I will let you off that one then

But surely it's better if the spammers can't get in in the first place? An admin can't be on 24-7, and in the time the admin is away from the board the spammer will have had plenty of time to post up illegal or pornographic links/images, which looks bad on you and your board and compromises the safety of your members.
So, I'm still very strongly against this suggestion. I don't think it'll happen to be honest, because of the big security problem it poses.

I'm or it...
I don't count on using, but if people want to play with fire, my reaction would be to say: let them burn
So I think it should be an option

well i agree cause
even if i activate everytime still they forget about the site and never come back but
if it is automatic they can get in the site and if they like they stay.
i have activated like 150 or members and from them 70% never came to the site next time

If its an option ,then it doesnt effect those of you who does not wish to use it,because you still have the option for a user activation or admin activation. So just stay with one of them. I am asking for another choice which would be the third choice of a instant activation if anyone on here wishes too use it.

18 mersey, on 18/03/2007 at 00h41
i saw this somewhere else and a mod said it would never be removed because its a security feature that must be there
19 Suta, on 18/03/2007 at 02h46
It could be an option, why not have it for people that want those typs of people on there forum? I say make it an option, even if people don't use it!
20 Isabel_Kitty, on 18/03/2007 at 13h20
I am for it as long as it's a 3rd option so if you want it you can use it and if you don't want spammers - don't.
