When I signed up, i was told that this was free and AD. free. Now we have ADs and i am not to happy (as well as my members). I know you can buy the feature to be ad free, but i don't really want to have to pay money for my site i use for fun.

What do you think??

pros of ADs
~pays for new features and forumotion
~you can pay for them to be disabled
~it is a free forum!

Cons of ADs
~gets in the way
~is annoying to users, especially the blinking and shaking ones
~when we signed up for it, they said the site is ad free
~we got no notice
~we cannot choose to move it to a different spot
~they are all unrelated to my site, and considering that mine is a kid site, finding your credit score is super random!

Please vote as to what you think??
Will we "vote them off the island"??
Or will we decide to keep them?

YOU DECIDE! Very Happy

Well, Forumotion's MAIN source of income is from Advertising. Without a couple of ads on your forum here and there, Forumotion would have no money, no technicians, no updates, no members, no forums.

If you don't want them, and cant be bothered to pay to have them removed, stop your complaining and just deal with the fact that they are there.

Just what Daijro said. They give Forumotion money so that we can get updates, get the bug/glitchs fixed etc.... Without this then say good bye to forumotion. salut

Enough said?

Voted to keep the adds.

How come we have never had the ads before?
5 Guest, on 19/12/2008 at 23h42
Because Forumotion didn't need the money before. Now, in these hard economic times, the money is needed.

I would image that is correct.

Id like to add something: More money = more techs, more updates...ect...and we need our updates, so we want techies.

Dont you want your forum with new updates?

I do, It would be boring after awhile without updates.

I agree with you.
It's a reality that they are annoying, but you can pay to remove them.
Maybe it would be better if we could choose what advertishes is better for our forums, but I can't complaine. I've never seen an illegal ad (porno or sth like this) in forumotion. The ads are "clean". But, in another forum provider company I've seen really bad advertisments. I don't what to remember it. I was shocked.

Believe me, we can't complaine with these adds.

I voted yes. Honestly - they dont bother me at all. Second - they are Google ads ( at least on my site ). And 3rd - i dont understand why everyone is so against ads. Ads aint that bad, it happened a lot of times before that you were actually interested in the ad...

Its a totally different story with flashing ads, you are the 999.999 winner ( i HATE this ad ) and pop-up ads ( which i would literally destroy, if that would be possible ).

And since ads finance Forumotion ( which is, one great free forum provider ) i have no complaints. Plus - it could be worse. Some free forum hosts give you an ad BETWEEN posts. Like : your post, ad, member`s post, ad...

Ads, Shopmotion, and credits are possibly the only way Forumotion can get money out of this. Besides, it's just for the guests (Or at least my forum does), so it's not that bad to have ads. And also, it would be ideal for this to happen so that we'll get more updates in the future. Ads are the easiest way to get funded with cash, and without them, Forumotion (And some other sites) wouldn't exist.

I'm against this suggestion and I vote yes.

well i am not against ads at all, you dont want those ads you have to pay for it. Forumotion pays this for hosting (i think so) and it costs somewhat to them. so they display ads to compensate their expenses.

well it would be really nice if admins of the forums are permitted to select particular category ads so that they are related to the site.

hope admin hear's my sugesstion blackeye

yeah i think that it would be good to choose which ads. is there any way to get your forum into the ads?
15 Rok, on 21/12/2008 at 15h36
It's just better to leave the ads as is for right now. Let ForuMotion achieve more income so they can buy us some new updates. Let's just set this aside and let ForuMotion do it's work. The ads may go away later when ForuMotion decides.

Although I agree with your whole massage. I can't say that.... I have seen this ad lots of times in my forum.

my main beef with ads is not with the ones on the main page but with the ones in the friends/foes area of the profile. Many of my members are in their early teens and over 25% of the ads are close to adult content.

I am seriously considering disabling this feature if I can't have some control over the types of ads shown here.
