User Forum Achievements/Rewards

I have seen forums out there that are PHPBB3 and Invision that have an achievements/rewards MOD installed, and I really think it's cool to provide an incentive for people to post and achieve things as well; not only does it give back to the community, but the poster as well.

Say if a person posts 1000 times, they earn the "Spammer" achievement.

Or if they Private Message 100 people, they earn the "Spy!" achievement.

Customizing/creating your own achievements would be nice too, such as setting up variables and/or choosing/uploading the picture for it, setting points for it, have that some how play into a cash mod and so on, the possibilities are endless.

Is this equal to a rank system? Confused

This is a brilliant idea. I voted Yes.

No, you know like Xbox Live achievements?

Except for forum things, like posting a certain amount, or viewing a certain amount of topics and such.

Does anyone have the name of the mod that does this for PHP/Invision forms, I remember seeing it, but I forgot the name of it.

You guys do know that this is possible through Personalized profiles?
6 Shine, on 12/03/2009 at 05h11

The thing is that it's not an automatic process, I want something that's automatic and instant upon achieving the set goal/award.

But how do you know if the user spammed the posts, or said usless stuff in the PMs...

It would be better to be manual because there are always spammers

If a user spammed the posts, which by spam I presume you mean just posts a lot; what harm does that do to you or your community?

If a person wants to say silly stuff in PMs, let them; a user will report them to an admin, and an admin will take care of it.

Manual configuring of anything heavy-loaded like this would be silly.

It's a matter of preference, myself and I can say safely; a LOT of the large forum owners out there want this.

You still haven't convinced me so, i'm not really going to vote

No. And i am being the only one who voted that way.

♣ Cash mod is sh**. Convince me otherwise and i give YOU a medal / award.
♣ Being called spammer isnt really a thing worthy of an applause, its more like being insulted
♣ Spy... ? Lurker ? NOT really my preferred title...
♣ People will post, if they want to. Being stimulated to post for such useless things - i dont need such people on my forum.

That's fine.

In your opinion, you haven't convinced me why it is bad.

I run a forum that is mature in nature (meaning we have 18+ folks) who enjoy having a good time; plus we are pirates in the game we play, EVE Online.

♣ Spy... ? Lurker ? NOT really my preferred title...

In your opinion, in our forums nature we are Pirates in EVE Online; thus 'spy' and 'lurker' are great additions, plus you can rename whatever and create your own achievements, plus those were examples.

♣ People will post, if they want to. Being stimulated to post for such useless things - i dont need such people on my forum.

In your opinion.

So far all I got from you are opinions that aren't backed up by concrete ideas; the whole premises behind this reward system is for users to create/modify their own achievements, so you can create whatever you want for your forum.

For your argument you are very rude, so I will pretend you didn't say anything since the votes are 7:1, you being the 1.

I agree with taro here.

Also, how will this help 1000's upon 1000's of forum's, if there's only say 100's of forum's with more than 200 users?
Im voting no.

=> No.

It's more of a perk, and just because you don't have a forum that has a lot of a people in it, what about people who do?

I bet if you were to do a poll (even on a smaller forum) on who would want achievements or trophies on a forum, majority would be yes, most people would like that award for posting their 10th, 100th, 1000th post or a LOT of miscellaneous things.

So far, I really have not had any real arguments against this; and it doesn't have to be ubar beneficial, it's so it's there; I mean who uses the roleplaying mod? Not many people, but it's there to use in case someone does want to use it.

As true as that is, you can just as easily do that with Automatic ranks + Personalized profile.

If I were to join ur forum, and you have an auto-award for 10000th post, I spam my way there overnight, is that worth it?

That's not what I am going to do with my custom achievements (if the system is implemented for users to create their own achievements), I will maybe cap it out at like 1000 posts, and the rest are ingame related, community related or based on how many contributions a user posts so a medal or trophy is awarded.

I think you're taking things a bit too literal, in fact this system is supposed to be a bit sandbox so you can do what you want with it.
