My main suggestion is to add a calender option for "Local Event" or "Global Event". Where a local event will ONLY show for the specific time you set it, because it is happening at THAT specific timezone. A global event will change the time for EACH of your members timezones. So if i post an "Global Event" for 8:00 and I am in timezone UTC-7, then our member in the timezone UTC+5 will see the event scheduled for 20:00 their time. (I would implement it on the back end by converting all times to UTC-0 when they are posted then converting them to the viewing users timezone. Just my thought.)
More Ideas:
Have a BBcode to include the calender event you are posting inside of the post, and link to it on the calender itself.
Also maybe a way for members to join a specific event?
