IP Log Mod

I have seen this mod on other forums and it's very good.

Shows you the ip of any member logged in and also the ip's of any guests.

At present if we have guests there is no way of knowing if it's a member or not...or if members are joining with two different user names. With the method we have now , on the memberlist it only shows the e mail of a member until they actually post which is very annoying.

This mod is common on a lot of phpbb forums.

here's a link to the actual mod

Edit Max--- : Multiple choice removed Wink

We already have I.P mods so I don't understand the point :/

I think it would be good to have one that lets you see the IP of every registered user. At present, you can only see the IP of those who have posted, or are online, so one that lets you see it all the time would be good.

You can see these IPs in the Admin panel > statistics no ?

Yes, but only for those who are currently online.

From what I understood of the OP, they're talking about seeing the IP of any member at any time (even if they're not posted before).

Yeah, I had this on my last forum (myfast forum) and it logged the IP when they register, so even if they didn't post or were not online, I could still see their IP by looking at the registered list in the admin panel.

yes, at present we only get to see the e mail when they register and not the ip. The new member has to post first before you can see the ip.
Can't tell much from an e mail address because people can use false ones. So there could be lots of multiple registrations from the same person, using different e mail addresses. Having the ip number from the start would maybe give you a better idea of who is joining.

Yes for me.
I get so many people with 50 accounts because they keep making more with different usernames.
And of course it is hard to keep up with them all, so once again, yes.

I didn't vote, but my brother and I have to use the same computer, so it would just look like I have two accounts if me and him were in the same site, which we are...:/

I agree with AtoliSky, there are already Ip logs you can view.

I get so many people with 50 accounts because they keep making more with different usernames.

Just ban there IP then (is that possible)

i voted yes, we should have one. as of now, its hard to find the ip addressess of members

I'll vote yes. It can be useful if an administrator wants their account activation on the site more secure. From what I hear, it is possible to look up a username/information and see if that person could be a potential threat.

Either way, figuring out ad-spam bots as soon as they register is rather easy after over a year of battle on another site fending them off.

Range ban and wild card is there, and it's quite useful.

I would strongly recommend the IP shown of one that has registered but hasn't posted yet. It's hard to see who is there for a free ride and who is actually lurking.

The difference is subtle, I delete one member and another shows up not long after, I wonder who that can be. By the IP address, I can get an idea if I saw them before.

I voted yes.

Will we have to wait long to get an answer if this idea is to be implemented?

It will show up in Archives...either in "Approved" "Declined" or "Probable".

By the way, I am voting yes.

the ip log modification would be of real benefit .... to be able to check an ip on registration before activating ... and without need for the member to post first ...

is there any chance this mod will become available? Mr. Green
