Hiya!!
I think that it would be a good idea Admin people to bann users by Hardware ID, because actually, with dynamic IP`s, when you bann a person, he/she can make another account without problems and continuing getting into the forum, although you have banned that person once, twice, and another time and another...and, even if the person hasnt got a dynamic one, he/she can jump the IP restrictions using one of the hunderds of proxy online services that we can find all over the Internet...
So, if hardware ID banning was enabled, it would be nice, because the person would be banned by his Hardware ID, so the only way that has the person to can enter aggain into the forum is to change some parts of the hardware of his/her Pc, so that`s a hard thing to do, so the spammer/troll will get lazy and stop disturbing in the forum....

... And how do you suggest getting the Hardware ID?

The only way I seen this work if it was a gaming community.

However, they could just go to a public library or their next door neighbour and do their stuff. Its pretty hard to block someone from the Internet world without physically stopping them.

The only way I'm seeing this is to hack into the persons computer, lock it down so he can't do nothing, remotely access it and boot into the BIOS. Even booting into the BIOS would be a problem via a remote connection.

Yeah, some gaming servers do this, so why not bring it to Forumotion?
It would work the same.

Some gaming servers blocks users by Hardware ID, and they don´t hack the user`s system at all.
It would be a good idea to investigate how gaming servers do for banning by Hardware ID and try to put it on Forumotion.

invisible_fa They just have to go into their system type an ip and find the accounts that is working with the ip and ban their CD Key/Registry.

Ok, the important thing is that the IP doesn´t mind, because the thing they bann is the ID of the hardware components of the Pc, so, although he/she changes their IP, it won´t work
So, would it be a viable suggestion?

Well HD ID system would be great... just make GUID system.... there is plenty of fully coded scripts etc... just install it and convert it to all...
And how to get this work... well members needs to use some program to connect in site then that GUID system will work.
But how to use that *joker* mark in banning IPs.... that would keep spammers out. Just ban the first addresses exm: 85.678.23.112 ---> *xx.xxx.23.112

I think this is needed....I have a gaming forum and encountered a spy a couple of times. Especially with rival clans its hard to prevent trolls & spys from getting into your forum. So I think this hardware ID ban is great!
