If it was made so we only may read Reported PM's, yes.

I am voting yes, but only have this as a report function for PMs. It would just be totally unnaceptable to have this option so we can read user's PMs.

if you have this only admin should have the right and only a pop up sys where if the pm has been reported then the staff can see it....

I can see the benefit in this--to a point. What if there were harassment claims or something like that? It'd be beneficial to be able to look back through the logged conversations and see what's really up. (You know how he said she said things go with reporting.)

What if a member reported all the private messages sent to him/her by a specific members even without any reason, This is Illegal and won't be implemented really.

It isn't illegal and immoral if someone has reported a pm. They will more than likely send a copy of it to the admin anyways when they report one. Harassment and mass spamming now that is illegal and immoral and this would help to deal with it. No way for anyone to lie and at least this way you can see for a fact if what is said is 100% true.

I voted yes but with this stipulation. Only founders will have this sort of access and only for a reported pm. Now having access to everyones pm's would be immoral so only reported ones.

No, private messages are supposed to be private. I don't want anyone reading messages I send to others, even administrators.

Did you not read all the post??? It would be for a reported pm only, no other pm's but the reported one. Like mentioned above it should have a pop up for the founder only when a pm is reported and a copy of just that pm. Not give access to their pms just the reported one and it would be an automatic thing, not a go and look through others pm's sort of thing.

That way no one could go and change anything to make it into something it's not. I have had a few to do that on another forum that I am admin at and it causes more issues that way. At least this way no one can change any text of the reported pm.

I stated in my original post that this should work as the post report system does and that only the founder would have any access.

Immoral - only if you were able to sit and read through each and every members PM, whenever you chose to...

Illegal - no, there are many sites that I know of that this is standard practise and more than just the founder have access to the system.

It would not equate to reading someones email - because that is not part of a forum, that is seperate.

Can you please point out where in the TOS or anywhere else that it may appear that it is Illegal on forumotion? Because even on here if you get spammed or harassed the rules plainly state, "If you received advertising, pornographic content or insults by PM, you must send the whole message and a screenshot of that message to a moderator via PM. Posting it in a topic is useless and will only cause conflicts between you and the one who sent you the PM"


So if it's ok on here why is it not ok on everyone elses forum? Saying this is illegal is just wrong, I mean if it's illegal then forumotion it's self is breaking it's own rules. Also does a no vote mean that you wont be following the set rules of forumotion? Staff needs to read and know the rules of the site before they go and say something is illegal. Not starting anything but just pointing this out so don't take it to heart or the wrong way.

What you took a screenshot of is not reading other members PM's. That's the member sending a PM to a staff member with a screenshot.

ILLEGAL: Admins/Moderators reading other member's PM's.
NOT ILLEGAL: Members sending screenshots to Admins/Mods

What is being suggested in this thread is that admins/mods should be able to read other member's PMs.

It isn't the same thing. A member reporting being spammed by other users is very different than administrators going into a member's PM box and reading private conversations between people.

A believe France has a privacy law that also applies to Internet cases as well and Forumotion abides by it. Even if there isn't, it's just plain immoral to go reading though people's private messages.

The thread hasn't been moved because no moderators have sent the thread to a G.Mod to be moved.

The only time a PM would be read would be if it is reported to the founder admin, no one else.

That has always been the suggestion.

Well from past experiences of people being able to read private messages the only thing that has come out of it is stolen passwords and banned members because of their opinion of a staff member.

Although this is not the intent of the suggestion this is what will happen. Forumotion is a strong believer in privacy and I'd like to keep it that way.

It would seem that the past experiences you have had have not been good, I guess it would depend on the founder of the site being willing to stake any reputation they have by abusing such a feature. As it is only repeat only founder members that would be able to use this feature.
