Change a users color without grouping them.

I would like to change certain users color on my forum.
The way to do this is placing them in a group.
But the problem is, all groups appear in the legend. I do not want certain groups to appear.
So I make them invisible. Now what happens is, the members in that groups color no longer applies on the members in it.

This is where my suggestion comes in.
We should have some kind of option to make individual members whatever color we want without having to place them in a group.

How is this helpful? Well, your members can use the points they have earned on your forum to "buy" their own unique color. It would clutter the forums to have to make a group for each member who wants his own color. This is why this option should be available to us.

Anyone agree?

Hi,

I don't think this really necessary, you just create a group with that colour and if make it a hidden group it won't appear in the legend.

I agree with Beno, you can easily hide the group while putting them there, although it may be a hassle at times :S

Perhaps you guys didn't read what I posted well enough.. I mentioned that when you make a group private, those members no longer have the color of the group while the group is private.

I have a test forum, and I see the colors even when I hide them.

Negative. All you're seeing is the color of the links on the forum. Put a member in that group and make the color of that group something entirely different from the colors of your test forum, like bright pink or something. You will notice that the members in that group are not the color you applied to that group while the group is invisible.

*EDIT: Clearly you now finally understand since you haven't said another word. If you still think making a group private will still show the color of the group regardless, prove it. Also I think it's a bit odd that a global moderator on this support forum didn't even know that making groups private doesn't show the color anymore. I suggest reading the topic next time. Wink

Your right hiding a group will hide the color of the member i wanted to make the same thing one time so in the shop there would be a cost for a name change or color but i could not do the color one as making a group would make the site in a mess there is only so much groups you can make and to make it so all your members thay pay for a name color would be silly so to do what your saying would be better

have settings that you can type in the name and color members name with out adding them to a group would be better

you have my vote Smile

Thanks for taking the time to actually read the topic. Some people should have done the same. Smile

There's a tutorial floating around that uses CSS to put an image in front of a username. That tutorial can be easily modified to instead change the color of individual usernames.

Dion, do you by any chance know the link or the possible name of that thread? I tried a search but can't seem to find it..

You have my vote for sure. I am still new to running the forums here but when I tried to hide a group and add the color it will not show. I know for a month we give out special title colors to members who deserve it but when it is hidden it is rather useless. Again I also don't want my legend bar getting cluttered like I have seen on many other forums.

I don't think this is really needed. It really isn't beneficial for it to be coded by the techs and added to the forums(Not just the English forums).

Thanks for understanding and agreeing, we need more people that understand the concept of this suggestion!

The idea was a suggestion, not really a necessity but it is in fact helpful and doesn't clutter your forum with a bunch of groups just to give a user their own color. Yes it is beneficial for the obvious reasons that I stated in the OP and in this post, it provides less clutter with numerous groups. In any case, you have your opinion.

Hey, I think it would be a good idea for users to be able to choose what color their name appears in, even when they are registed in multiple color coded groups. For example, currently, if a user is in 2 groups, lets call these 2 groups Group A (red) and
