How can I make my categories come seperated?

I recently created a new forum and put new categories and forums into it but it doesnt look the way i want it to look.
U can see how i made the categories and forums and it looks like this
While I want to make it look like this, image taken from another forum
can anyone tell me how to make the categories seperated, i worked on it alot but couldnt figure it out.
Please help as soon as possible

Hi, please go to:
1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. Display Tab
3. Structure and hierarchy (on the left, under Homepage)
4. Select 'Split categories on index : Medium'
