Can forumotion make it so you cannot find out your locations? I mean its not like you need their location and it makes people uncomfortable knowing someone knows where they are. I would be worried. And you should be too. Please remove this option, its a violation and I fear someone could get found and harmed through this. And its possible!

It is important to know a location of a users so if the user will spam or flooding your forum it is very important to know where that users location.
Not all members on your forum can't view the IP Address of other member only Administrators/Founders can view it in your forum ACP

IPs are necessary to protect forums and other users. IPs are used to make sure rules such as no multiple accounts are enforced. All sites will track your IP. Yes, Google tracks your IP when you do a search and Wikipedia also tracks and publicly displays your IP
Now if you want to use a proxy server to hide behind, that's up to you

Well, this should be refused asap. There is no way Forumotion can do that. You'd have to talk to the Head Internet People to do it and I think you wouldn't. No matter what there will ALWAYS be that. Weather you like it or not.

we have to keep info like this as you may need to report a member for breaking the low so the isp and ip address is needed and as a forum owner you have to do this if some one was to use your site to break the low.

Even if forumotion removed the IP location information, there are hundreds of sites where one can type in an IP address and get that information.
If you are really concerned about anonymity, use Firefox with the following two products:
