Hello,

Navigate to:

Admin Panel

General

Categories and Forums

Modify all forums concerned

Permissions

View the forum > Untick the boxs concerned (Guests etc)

Tick all of the groups you want to see the forums (Staff etc)

Do this for all forums.

Save & Complete

Note, you can not change the permissions of a category, only the forums contained in a category.

You could make a HTML page which says 'forum in maintenance' or whatever, them temporarily set it as your homepage.

Eh, how didn't it work?

It wont display as being in maintenance mode for you, try logging out and looking.
