Tracking Type2 SCD when using a dimension outrigger
With an outrigger table, a narrow band of attributes, usually with significantly lower cardinality than the main dimension, is in essence snow flaked off of the main dimension. Great technique for data management and maintenance. To hide complexity from the user, Kimball recommends combining the two tables into one view. Nice solution, but how do you present SCD tracking columns such as Effective From & Through Date, Current Fl

I am looking for a list of dimension tables to track historical changes on for a banking data warehouse, based on "best practices". Customer is a prime candidate. Are there others?
Thanks,

We are working in a MS SQL Server 2005 environment using SSIS to populate our DW DB and SSAS to build our OLAP database from that DW DB.

I'm in the process of designing a dimensional model for a product warehouse, and a question I have is about how to handle a change of a Type 2 dimension in a related fact. I am keeping the details of each of our products in a Type 2 dimension (name
