No sleep does not a happy head make

I have never been one to be able to sleep well or even to get a lot of sleep. But being able to get some sleep or to at least lay down for several hours can be the difference between a manageable migraine and a horrendous one. I am about to be thrown into a horrible one. This being my first real interaction with Android, is there a 'sleep mode feature' built in? I figured out how to turn off the screen by flicking the power switch, but the battery drains 25% an hour in this mode. Is there a better way to do this? I
