Need help with Root instructions

Need help with Root instructions

I went through the very detailed instructions on rooting. When I get to the very end of the instructions where i type in su my coby Kyros does not change from an S to # so i get a message: permission denied. Anyone have any idea about what I should do next? P.S. I'm a Newb Embarassed !

Root Access?
I am trying to get Root access with a program called "Root Explorer" but it fails to gain access. Is there something I need to do to be able to access the root for making some changes to various files for development?
