Stupid Noob Question

I'm about a 2 month Android user, coming from both and iPhone and a WM 6.5 phone.

I'm confused about the android market place(s) - I thought it was like the iPhone where there was only one authorized market, but obviously I'm wrong? My Epic has the official app market, but my Maylong (rooted rom) has one completely different. How do I get my Maylong to see the apps in the "official" store? Is it as simple as finding the right app to get me

Feeling Really Stupid here but...
How the heck do you tell what number doohicky your tablet comes with? I see a million different roms and don't know which one is for me. I got one of those irobot boxed MID tablets that had the fake 2.1 OS on it. I got the 1.9 superfast rom to work
